It took one and a half years to finish her new home. On Friday dorm of association “future despite Handicap” was solemnly opened in high-rise churches. 27 Young people with intellectual disabilities will live re henceforth.

The club was founded in March 2013 with aim of building a place of residence for young people, in which y can live mselves. The company takes over curative pedagogical centre Augustin (HPCA), which is able to draw on experience with a similar residence in Oberschleißheim.

The participants have devised a promising concept for financing: costs were initially financed by a proportion of parents of new residents of 99 750 euros each, a loan and participation of Manfred-Auer-Stiftung. Due to ir own share, families are involved in a non-profit-making GmbH Co. KG- owner of house-who, in turn, has concluded a lease agreement for first ten years with HPCA. However, rent is financed by district of Upper Bavaria. The rental income is intended to refinance investment of families in long term. If a resident wants to move out, family can resell apartment, but only to family of anor person with disabilities.

But because not everyone who would like to move in has wealthy relatives, Manfred-Auer Foundation enables three people to move in without having to raise ir own share. The community has right to propose assignment of se three places. Two places are already occupied. Overall, project cost 5.4 million euros.

The house is a pilot project

Each of bright apartments, of which 25 are wheelchair-accessible, has a private bathroom. The kitchen on ground floor has been designed so that wheelchair users can drive around island. There are also rapeutic rooms in basement, as well as a laundry and multi-purpose room, which can be used by residents for celebrations or as a TV room.

The house on Konzeller Straße 1 in new building area of high-rise churches is a “pilot project”, as Andrea Hanisch, chairman of Association, calls it. Because one wants to provide knowledge and experience of or similar initiatives on a database on Internet.

The association is mainly about inclusion as lived practice, says Hanisch. The property on which residence is located is situated in a townhouse settlement with a playground where many young families are attracted. Here 20-30-year-olds are supposed to live in a family-like environment, but can also grow old. Twenty-four of 27 units have already been purchased. “The inhabitants are to realize mselves,” says Robert Limmer of HPCA. Therefore, word residential community is more true than dorm. Toger with association, for example, arrangements have been made to remove flexible intermediate walls in some apartments so that couples can pull toger. A young couple is already living toger in house.
