According to the police and local media, a large crowd made up of many teenagers and young adults feasted in the Woodbine Beach area during an evening that was ultimately marred by numerous incidents.

The 19 people arrested, whose ages range from 14 to 26, are notably accused of theft, nuisance or assault on a police officer, depending on the case. Two have already appeared on Monday, while the others will be heard in July.

Toronto Mayor John Tory has denounced acts of “hooliganism” and said he spoke with his police chief to better regulate activities on the beach in the future.

“Despite this hooliganism, police officers have been able to make arrests and ensure there are legal consequences for those who break the law,” he said.
