Quebecer Mélodie Daoust is the recipient of the Isobel-Gathorne-Hardy award, given annually by Hockey Canada to an active player whose values, leadership and personal traits are representative of all female athletes.

The 30-year-old hockey player succeeds her national team teammate Marie-Philip Poulin, who received this distinction in 2021.
In a statement released Wednesday, Hockey Canada highlights Daoust’s talent, devotion and community involvement.
“It is largely thanks to her efforts that women’s hockey is booming,” said the federation.
In 2022, the native of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield participated in the founding of a new high performance women’s hockey program of the “Prep School” type at Collège Bourget, in Rigaud. She will also be a trainer there.
On the ice, Daoust helped Canada win gold at the Beijing Olympics. She is also involved with the Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association in the creation of a new women’s professional hockey league.
