MADRID, 28 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Acciona Energía will expand the MacIntyre complex, which is already the largest wind farm in Australia, to double its capacity to 2,000 megawatts (MW) after announcing the construction of the new Herries Range park, with a global investment of 2,500 million euros.

MacIntyre is currently made up of two wind farms: MacIntyre (923 MW), owned 70% by Acciona Energía and 30% by Ark Energy; and Karara, owned by the Queensland CleanCo utility.

The announcement was made during a visit to the port of Brisbane by the Prime Minister of Queensland, Annastacia Palaszczuk, together with part of her cabinet, to attend the unloading of the components of the wind turbines of the MacIntyre wind complex, already under construction. . Currently, the project consists of 1,023 MW, with 180 wind turbines of 5.7 MW each.

“We are very proud to announce that we have started development of the Herries Range wind farm to add 1,000 renewable megawatts to Queensland’s energy mix. This project doubles the complex’s current capacity and with it we hope to dramatically accelerate the decarbonisation of Queensland’s electricity grid. Queensland,” said Brett Wickham, Managing Director of Acciona Energy in Australia.

The aim is to link the completion of construction of the current configuration of the MacIntyre complex with the start of work on the new adjoining project, Herries Range, meaning that workers will be able to move from one large-scale project to the next while staying in the same area, according to Wickham added.

In total, MacIntyre will reach a capacity of 2,000 MW, which represents a global investment of more than 4,000 million Australian dollars (2,500 million euros) and clean energy to supply the equivalent of 1.4 million homes per year.
