It proposes a 4.09% increase in airport charges for 2024

Aena has registered a net profit of 607.7 million in the first six months of the year, above both the 277.5 million euros registered in the same period of 2022, and the 559 million of 2019, as reported this Wednesday to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV), to whom he also communicated the approval of the tariff proposal for next year, which represents an increase of 4.09% compared to 2023, which will be supervised by the CNMC.

The total number of passengers of the Aena Group (Spain, Luton and the airports of the Northeast of Brazil) has grown to 144.1 million, 22.8% more than in the same period of 2022 and this represents a recovery of 100.5 % of pre-pandemic traffic (2019).
At Aena airports in Spain, traffic in the first six months of the year reached 129.4 million passengers, which represents an increase of 23.4% compared to the same period last year and is equivalent to 101, 2% of the traffic of the first six months of 2019.
Total consolidated revenue for the first half of 2023 increased to 2,333.2 million euros, which represents an increase of 24.1% compared to the first half of the previous year. Aeronautical revenues were 1,277.1 million euros, 19.4% more than in 2022.
Commercial revenues, supported by growth in sales from commercial activities that exceed 2019 levels, reached 715.3 million euros, an increase of 29% compared to the first half of 2022.
The manager highlights the good performance of commercial activity in the first six months of the year, in which pre-pandemic activity levels have improved notably.
Thus, total sales of commercial activities exceeded 2019 levels by 13.5%, and income from fixed and variable income invoiced and collected in the period exceeded 2019 figures by 19%.
“Regulated business, however, has been partially slowed down by the fact that the sharp increases in costs in the provision of airport services since the approval of DORA 2 have not been recognized in airport rates,” the company explains.
The consolidated accounting net financial debt of the Aena Group stood at 7,071.8 million euros, compared to 6,242.9 million euros in 2022, reducing the net financial debt to Ebitda ratio of the consolidated group to 2.87 times, compared to at 3.00 times as of December 31, 2022.
It has also produced solid cash generation. The net cash generated by operating activities has reached 1,048.5 million euros compared to 783 million in the first half of 2022.
The investment paid between January and June 2023 amounted to 1,043.9 million euros, which represents an increase of 660.2 million euros compared to the first six months of 2022. These investments have focused mainly on improving the facilities and the operational security of the airports and include 611.5 million euros for the obligatory payments of the concession of the Block of Eleven Airports in Brazil.
For its part, the Opex of the Aena Group, which includes the costs of supplies, personnel and other operating expenses, amounts to 1,140.3 million euros in the first half of 2023, compared to 1,055.2 million for the same period. of 2022. The evolution of these expenses reflects the increased activity and the operation of the terminals and open airport spaces of the Aena Group.
Regarding other operating expenses, the reduction in the cost of electricity in the Spanish network stands out, which has been 63.7 million euros (50.9% less than in the first half of 2022).
Excluding the impact of energy, the year-on-year increase in other operating expenses in the Spanish airport network was 64.6 million euros, 13.2% more than from January to June 2022.
The Aena Board of Directors approved at its meeting yesterday the tariff proposal applicable as of March 1, 2024, setting the maximum adjusted annual revenue per passenger (IMAAJ) for 2024 at 10.35 euros per passenger, which represents a variation of 4.09% compared to the IMAAJ of 2023 (9.95 euros per passenger).
This percentage includes, “notably”, the calculation of the P index for 2022, which is established at 3.5%, derived from the increase in costs for the provision of airport services. The 2022 CPI registered an average value in Spain of 8.4%.
Aena explains that “the National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC) recognized the value of the P index referred to in its resolution of June 8, 2023”.
Aena’s airport charges are the compensation that it is entitled to receive for the provision of basic airport services.
