Nearly one in four Canadians have changed careers in the past few months, according to a recent survey by ADP Canada conducted in collaboration with Maru Public Opinion.

The poll results, released Wednesday, also found that among those planning to change jobs in the next six months, 88% believe the most important determining factor is their pay, according to poll results released Wednesday.

More than a quarter of respondents, 27%, said they had received a non-performance pay raise in the past six months, and more than a third said the increases were more than 5%.

Remuneration and flexibility

Also, according to the survey, while some organizations have already adjusted their compensation model to retain employees, employers will need to revise their compensation model as market conditions change in order to stay competitive.

Indeed, flexibility and job satisfaction are two other key factors highlighted by the survey.

A majority of Canadians say they are satisfied with their job and their work environment. When asked why they would stay in their current role, 93% said they were happy in their current role, and nine in ten said they were happy with their work environment.

The survey results suggest that employers will need to monitor the various factors that may influence this overall job satisfaction in order to retain talent.
