Urges to take advantage of “the opportunity and privilege” of Barcelona and Catalonia to host the MWC
The president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, announced this Sunday that the Generalitat’s Budget for 2024 will allocate “for the first time in history” more than 1,000 million euros to research, development and innovation (I D i).
He said this during the Mobile Lunch, in which the Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Service, José Luis Escrivá, also participated; the mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni; the CEO of GSMA, John Hoffman, and the CEO of Mobile World Capital Barcelona (MWCapital), Francesc Fajula.
Aragonès has stated that this item in the accounts demonstrates “this Government’s commitment to a reindustrialization of the country based on knowledge” and that its executive knows how to prioritize its resources.
He has assured that Catalonia is a consolidated hub in the economy and digital talent, and that it is one of the places where “more technological investments in the field of innovation” are collected.
Furthermore, he defended that Catalonia is “in a position to play a leading role in all technological sectors and in all digital fields”, both in the audiovisual industry and in electronic commerce or artificial intelligence (AI).
Aragonès is convinced that this edition of the MWC “will once again break all records” in visitors, economic impact and volume of business generated.
Furthermore, he has urged to take advantage of “one more year the opportunity and privilege” that hosting the congress represents for Barcelona and Catalonia, offering the support of the Generalitat to the technology sector and all the agents involved in the MWC.
PRAISE THE MWCAPITAL
The Mobile Lunch has been organized by MWCapital as a preview of the Mobile World Congress (MWC), which is held from Monday to Thursday in the Gran Via area of Fira de Barcelona, and the Minister of Business of the Generalitat, Roger Torrent, was also present , and the director general of Fira de Barcelona, Constantí Serrallonga.
Aragonès has praised the work of MWCapital, stating that it contributes to ensuring that the impact for Barcelona and Catalonia is not only during the week of the event, but “during the rest of the year.”
He also highlighted, verbatim, the GSMA’s permanent commitment to Catalonia, which explains why Mobile in Barcelona generates “a future ahead that has no ceiling.”
“LET’S NOT STOP PUSHING”
Precisely, the event that opens the MWC was held at the Tàpies Foundation, and Aragonès quoted the painter: “The world only moves forward if we push it”.
“Well, let’s not stop pushing. Let’s not stop moving forward as we have done all these years,” he claimed in reference to the work of the GSMA and MWCapital in Catalonia.
