The event occurred shortly before 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday in a Bell store located in the Galeries Appalaches, in Thetford Mines. Three masked individuals then burst into the business asking the clerk, threatened with a handgun, to kneel down.

The robbers then seized 22 cell phones with an estimated value of $28,000, before fleeing in a vehicle where a driver was waiting for them.

Officers from the Thetford Mines Police Department met a few witnesses at the scene shortly after the robbery. They also took care of the victim who was treated for nervous shock in a hospital in the region.

The forensic identification of the Sûreté du Québec was also used in this case to examine the crime scene.

Hand in the bag

The information from the two police forces was sent to Montreal police investigators (SPVM) to enable them to find the vehicle identified during the theft.

This is how the SPVM officers were able to apprehend two suspects who were in the vehicle in question, the same day. They also had in their possession three of the phones that had been stolen during the day.

Mouad Bouchina and Nabil Nedja, two 19-year-old Montrealers, therefore faced charges of robbery, wearing a disguise with criminal intent, as well as conspiracy and complicity in a robbery.

The two men remained detained after their appearance and are due to return to class on Thursday for their release investigation. The investigation is continuing in this case to find the other two thieves.
