A 29-year-old man was hit by a firearm projectile on Saturday evening, in the Ville-Marie sector, in Montreal.

The event occurred around 9:50 p.m. when shots were heard, said Jean-Pierre Brabant, spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).

The victim was walking on Sherbrooke Street East, near Des Érables Avenue, when at least one suspect approached and fired several shots in his direction.

Injured in the lower body, the man was transported conscious to a hospital center and there is no fear for his life.

Several casings were found at the scene when the police arrived.

The suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction, according to several witnesses.

A perimeter has been erected on rue Sherbrooke Est, which is closed in both directions between avenue de Lorimier and rue Parthenais.

Investigators must go on site to analyze the scene and meet with witnesses to determine the causes and circumstances of the event.
