Philips presents its latest advances in stroke care at the World Stroke Congress 2022

Philips introduces innovations in its comprehensive stroke care solutions aimed at improving the treatment and quality of life of stroke patients

Leading clinical experts will discuss early detection of stroke, new guidelines for reperfusion therapy, and the health and economic impact of a new form of care: the direct route to angiography at a Philips-hosted symposium

Amsterdam, October 26, 2022 – Philips, a leading health technology company, will present its latest advances in the treatment of stroke patients during the 14th World Stroke Congress (WSC 2022), which takes place from October 26 to 29 in Singapore. Philips comprehensive solutions help advance stroke care through early detection and streamlined workflow that reduce treatment time, a key factor in delivering the best outcomes for stroke patients.

To connect information, technologies and people along the entire stroke care pathway and make it easier for care teams to work quickly and act decisively, Philips works closely with stroke care partners such as stroke care company stroke MedTech Nicolab, which will join Philips at the World Stroke Congress 2022.

Worldwide, one in four adults over the age of 25 will experience a stroke in their lifetime [1], making it the leading cause of disability and the second leading cause of death worldwide [2] . The key to improving outcomes for stroke patients is to treat them as soon as possible. Practitioners in an emergency stroke setting are racing against the clock and under intense pressure to make optimal treatment decisions. Despite the strong need to act as quickly as possible, care teams are currently wasting valuable time due to gaps in communication, information and access to stroke experts.

“On this World Stroke Day we are committed to improving stroke care,” said Angelique Balguid, Philips Neurovascular Portfolio Marketing Manager. “At every vital step, from early detection to treatment and recovery, we are collaborating with caregivers to accelerate the stroke care pathway, because every minute counts for stroke patients. Our goal is to push boundaries and set new standards, so clinicians can act faster, improve outcomes and increase access to care.”

Challenging the status quo in stroke care

Today, Wednesday, October 26, Philips will host a satellite symposium featuring talks from leading experts in clinical stroke care from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in Hall Summit 2 of the World Stroke Congress. Doctors Rotem Sivan-Hoffman, Head of the Radiology Department of the Meir Medical Center (Haifa, Israel), founder and Medical Director of CVAid; Professor Wim H. Van Zwam, interventional radiologist at Maastricht University Medical Center, the Netherlands; and Dr. Marc Ribó, interventional neurologist at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital, (Barcelona, Spain). The discussion will be moderated by Angelique Balguid, Philips, and will explore a range of topics, including early detection of stroke, new guidelines for reperfusion therapy, and the health-economic impact of a new pathway for stroke: the direct approach. to angiography.

Solutions for the treatment of stroke

Philips’ complete stroke package includes solutions for ambulance stroke monitoring and communication, remote patient assessment, diagnostic imaging and analysis, image-guided therapy, or neurological monitoring and evaluation. These solutions aim to improve diagnostic confidence and time to treatment, as well as help reduce the risk of a second stroke.

· The Philips Neuro suite is based on the company’s image-guided therapy system, Azurion. This suite offers the latest advances in interventional neuroradiology, such as the industry-leading SmartCT 3D measurement and visualization tool, to aid interventional neuroradiologists in diagnosis and treatment.

Philips solutions leverage the advanced CT capabilities of the company’s Spectral CT 7500 scanner to enhance radiologists’ diagnostic capabilities. Spectral CT 7500 offers improved differentiation of gray and white matter [3] and improved image quality for the detection of subtle hemorrhages [4], and can aid in the detection of ischemic stroke through better visualization of the vascular anatomy.

Philips is also integrating cloud-based and AI[5] stroke management, communication and triage solutions through StrokeViewer through its partnership with Nicolab, with the goal of improving patient outcomes through connecting care teams to optimize overall stroke workflow.

Supporting remote post-stroke telemetry, the Philips ePatch device replaces conventional Holter monitor setup with a small, discreet body sensor and patch attached to the patient’s sternum for up to 14 days of continuous recording and discharge quality of the electrocardiogram (ECG) for a reliable diagnosis [6] of patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Philips also provides an end-to-end service to support practices in ePatch implementation, enabling efficient workflows, improving patient experience and providing robust data analysis using cloud-based and web-based Cardiologs software. artificial intelligence.
