The Golden palm of Cannes Film Festival goes to family drama Shoplifters of Japanese Hirokazu Kore-eda. The 55-year-old tells story of a family of outsiders who live on fringes of society. The Palme d’or is main prize of festival, which took place this year for 71.

The grand prize of jury, second most important award of evening, went to American Spike Lee. His acclaimed satire BlacKkKlansman is based on true story of a black policeman who smuggled into racist Ku Klux Klan in 1970s.

The Italian Marcello Fonte was honored as best actor. He plays in Matteo Garrones Dogman a good-natured man who is harassed by a criminal. Best actress was Samal Yeslyamova from norrn Kazakhstan for her performance in drama Abu by Sergey Dvortsevoy. Abu is a German co-production.

For first time in history of festival, a special Golden Palm was also awarded: to Jean-Luc Godard, because, according to jury president Cate Blanchett, he “constantly redefined cinema”.

The prize of jury received Lebanese contribution Capernaum by director Nadine Labaki. For best directing, pole Pavel Pawlikowski for cold was excellent. The award for best screenplay was awarded twice: to Italian Alice Pipe watchman for Happy is Lazzaro and-in equal parts-to Iranians Jafar Panahi and Nader Saeivar. They wrote screenplay for Panahis film Three faces.
