Closing of the 43rd edition of the master’s degree in Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine organized by CRIS-UTH and the Jordi Desola foundation in which Doctors and Graduates in Biomedical Sciences from 5 countries have participated

Spain, December 14, 2023.- The 2022-2023 edition of this classic training program that has been taught uninterruptedly since 1980, currently in Blended mode, directed by Dr. Jordi Desola, has been successfully completed. Throughout these 40 years, 900 students from 15 different countries have attended. The academic program consists of 5 combined and consecutive phases.

A first phase of tutored pre-study in which students receive 150 selected basic documents, with selective self-assessment questionnaires that they must complete before moving on to the next phase.

A second face-to-face phase follows over 12 days in intensive and immersive mode. Keynote lectures are given by guest professors from other institutions, along with high added value activities, such as simulations of dysbaric accidents, and initial treatment exercises for Dysbarism in real scenarios next to the sea in a coastal town.

After the intensive face-to-face phase, students receive fake live video-recorded lectures on complementary topics from the previous phases, with tutored selective self-assessment questionnaires. This third phase of post-face-to-face study focuses on an in-depth analysis of the main indications for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy that are the basis of clinical practice.

In parallel with the previous, in-person, and post-in-person study, throughout the entire academic year students must complement their work and personal development with an internship period in an approved hyperbaric medicine hospital center, in addition to accrediting training and knowledge in technique. underwater, real applications of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in a multi-place chamber, and accredit a basic life support course approved by the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) or by the American Heart Association (AHA) in the case of those who come from the American continent.

As a final Master’s Thesis, students must present a final research project of personal development on subjects related to the subject of the courses, which must be approved and supervised by the Master’s Directorate.

The entire program is carried out and taught under the Coordination and Direction of Dr. Jordi Desola, with the participation as teachers of more professors from different prestigious institutions, some from other countries.

Once the entire program has been completed and the academic requirements have been completed, students receive the Master’s Diploma specializing in Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine. Those who have degrees in Medicine and Surgery, or equivalent degrees from other countries, will obtain Homologation from the Teaching Subcommittee of the European Committee for Hyperbaric Medicine (ECHM).
