From November 22 to 27, Malaga will be the tourist epicenter of Spain hosting the ‘Final 8’ of the Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals 2022. With the arrival of the best tennis players in the world, a large influx of national and international tourists is also expected who will visit the city and its surroundings. This is confirmed by the Holidu vacation rental and apartment portal, which through its comparative observatory analyzed prices and occupancy during the sporting event.
Although November is not characterized as one of the strongest months for local tourism, the vacation rental market expects a positive economic impact due to the high demand for accommodation in the capital of Costa del Sol. In this sense, and already with more than 30,000 tickets sold, the 2022 Davis Cup will attract delegations and tennis fans from European countries such as Croatia, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain, as well as fans from Australia, Canada, and the United States. States that will stay on the coast.
According to the data obtained, and considering the destinations closest to the tournament, the figures are positive and in some destinations there is almost no availability left. Malaga is in first place with 79% occupancy, Fuenguirola in second place with 72%, Estepona in third place with 67%, Mijas with 66%, and the beaches of Marbella and Benalmádena in fifth place, sharing 62 %, Torremolinos 59% and Nerja with 55% occupancy to date.
“In the midst of the current economic situation, these types of events are good news for Spanish tourism and only bring benefits to the owners of tourist rentals. If we compare reservations with the week before the event, we can see an increase of almost one 10% on Malaga reservations during the week of the 2022 Davis Cup.” affirms Esteban Farías, spokesperson and communications of Holidu.

In terms of prices, and considering that a good amount of money will already be spent for the event tickets, the option of staying in nearby cities is also a way to combine the event with a short vacation. For November, the cost of an average night in Malaga is 119 euros, followed by Mijas for 112 euros. Among the cheapest destinations are Nerja for 85 euros, Fuengirola for 97 euros, Torremolinos for 94 euros and Benalmádena for 91 euros. Finally, and with a little more budget, Marbella and Estepona for 162 and 134 euros per night.
Top 5: The most sought after destinations on the Costa del Sol
When it comes to the month of November and considering search preferences on the Costa del Sol, the data positions Malaga, home of the Davis Cup, in first place, the coast of Nerja in second place and the beaches of Marbella in third place. . The fourth position is for Fuengirola and in fifth place Torremolinos, these last tourist destinations a few kilometers from the event and highly valued by tourists who visit the Costa del Sol coast.
Methodology
The data for this study was collected from the Holidu database on March 4, 2022 by the Holidu Group expert team. The investigation considered the week of 11.21.2022 – 11.28.2022 (week of the 2022 Davis Cup) and focused on the percentage of occupation and prices in the different portals hosted by the Holidu platform.
