-Food Trails Project – “innovative and sustainable food systems”: the European call for start-ups and SMEs is now open.
Until February 16, 2023, the call for start-ups and SMEs of the Food Trails project, financed by Horizon 2020, whose objective is to develop solutions and projects to improve the sustainability of European food systems, will be open.
MILAN, Nov. 8, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The Municipality of Milan, lead partner of the European Food Trails project, and the Italian innovation hub Cariplo Factory, launched the call for start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with the objective of identifying innovative solutions to improve the sustainability of food systems in 11 European cities.
Selected candidates will have the opportunity to develop pilot projects within Food Trails’ 11 “Living Labs”, establishing strategic alliances with one or more cities, collaborating with major stakeholders in the European food system and innovation landscape, and meeting potential investors.
The Food Trails project, which lasts four years (2020-2024) and is funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme, brings together a consortium of 19 European partners, including 11 cities, 3 universities and 5 organizations, led by the City of Milan.
The project aims to support cities in the design, development and implementation of innovative, sustainable and inclusive food policies. These actions include the “link”, through which start-ups and SMEs will be identified in the cities participating in the project such as Bergamo, Birmingham, Bordeaux Metropole, Copenhagen, Funchal, Grenoble-Alpes Metropole, Groningen, Thessaloniki, Tirana and Warsaw. .

The deadline for submitting applications ends on February 16, 2023. Subsequently, a technical committee – made up of Cariplo Factory, the Milan City Council, the Stichting Wageningen Research Foundation and representatives of the 11 Food Trails associated cities – will evaluate and select the best requests.
Those selected in this phase will have the opportunity to participate in the Matchmaking Day to be held in the spring of 2023. Finally, in a second phase the finalists will be identified who will have the opportunity to develop a pilot project within Food Trails.
