CCS technologies are an essential part of reducing CO emissions and are no longer a technological novelty, also in Central and Eastern Europe. These are the last days of the CCS4CEE Project that aimed to renew the debate on the long-term deployment of CCS technologies in this part of the Old Continent. The project will officially end on December 31 of this year.
WARSAW, Poland, Dec. 18, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — CCS4CEE (full name: “Building momentum for CCS in the long term”) was launched in 2021 and resulted in the preparation of more than 35 documents, including the roadmap for Central and Eastern European CCS for 10 CEE countries, published in mid-2022. The project explored issues such as funding opportunities or social acceptance. The partners’ activities focused on reaching out to stakeholders and policy makers. Multiple events were held at the national and international level. The latest was the Final Regional Conference held in mid-September in Prague to summarize the project. The most important achievements of the CCS4CEE project in the partner countries have been demonstrated in this video.
“We are happy to have managed to contribute to strengthening cooperation in the region and changing the attitudes of stakeholders towards CCS technologies,” said Izabela Fortuniak, director of program development at WiseEuropa. “There is still much to be done, particularly in relation to the dissemination of knowledge among policy makers. The scope of the project covers Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine and Hungary. It is funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA-Norway Regional Cooperation Grant Fund. It is managed by WiseEuropa and sponsored by Bellona Foundation, as expert partner. The rest of the partners are Energy Policy Group, Institute for European Integration, and Civitta Latvija. The project is also funded by EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy.
