Following controversial statements on political influence, data analysis firm Cambridge Analytica suspended its chief Alexander Nix. Nix will be released from his task until a complete independent investigation with immediate effect, company shared. Statements by managing director secretly recorded by a reporter would “not represent values of company.”

Cambridge Analytica was criticized after Nix had bragged about a hidden camera with blackmail attempts by election candidates. A reporter from Channel 4, a British channel, had spent a representative of a potential wealthy customer who wanted to ensure success of several candidates in an election in Sri Lanka. Then Nix told him that y could “send girls to candidate’s house” to obtain incriminating information about political opponents. Anor possibility is blackmail: one could bribe opponent and later blackmail him with film material of bribery.
Besides statements of Nix, data analysis company is also under pressure because of a Datenmissbrauchvorwurfs. The company did not delete unlawfully received Facebook user data, contrary to previous assurances, said Facebook. According to information from New York Times and The Guardian, some information from approximately 50 million Facebook members has come to Cambridge Analytica. In order to collect m, a survey on personality traits was set up, which was registered on Facebook as a scientific research. The data n went to Cambridge Analytica without user’s knowledge.
The data is intended to enable Cambridge Analytica to display political ads tailored to individual users in US campaign 2016 on Facebook, which were particularly effective. The individual approach of voters over social networks was considered one of keys to Donald Trump’s election victory. As a result, Facebook had truncated Cambridge Analytica on weekend from accessing its data. The European Union called on Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg to explain himself personally to accusations. Cambridge Analytica itself denies having used data collected on Facebook for Trump campaign.
