I wanted to create a safe space for Chicago sports fans to vent their anger, hate, whatever, and so, I thought I’d do it in a mailbag like all the popular kids in the Chicago Sports section. I asked for submissions, and you sent ‘em, people. You sent ‘em. Keep that up. Send submissions to srosenbloom@chicagotribune.com or tweet them to @steverosenbloom. This should be fun.
One note, though: I wanted to call it “Hatebook," but I figured the Winklevos twins would sue me. Then it was supposed to be called the “Shipload of Sarcasm," but it was pointed out to me that Kmart used the “I shipped my pants’’ joke in a commercial, and that felt like stealing. So, I’m renaming this piece The Big Mailbag of Bile. Great new name, same beloved sarcasm. No better way to say, “Happy Valentine’s Day."
Tweet from Buddy R.: “I wonder what it would be like to read ANY article coming from the trib that had a positive spin to it? #HawksTalk’’
I’m sure you could find a friend who could read one to you.
Tweet from Robin B.: “There is no plan or strategy to make this team better and I am completely fed up with the situation. #Bulls.’’
Now serving No. 2,598,670.
Tweet from Elliott S.: “The Bulls have fans? Still?’’
Fake news.
Tweet from Ed H.: “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!’’
Could be the marketing slogan for a couple teams in town.
Email from Scott: “I truly hope the Bears (as well as some sports guys) have figured out from the past 8 year Denver debacle that good NFL organizations DO NOT TRADE 25 YEAR OLD FRANCHISE QB’S ie Garrapolo…. Also, for all the BS about Cutler must go, why not draft some building blocks for the future and keep him another mediocre year? Then get the Franchise QB next year?’’
The Bears have a lot of holes. It would be impossible for them to make a draft pick at the wrong spot. So, yeah, building blocks are needed. That’s why keeping Cutler to absorb punishment isn’t necessarily wrong. But still, Bears GM Ryan Pace needs a quarterback this year, whether through draft or trade, whether he starts this season or waits. But if the Bears trade for Garoppolo, Pace is tied to him the way Dave Wannstedt was anchored to Rick Mirer, and how’d that work out?
Tweet from James S.: “have u even brought up the Bulls picks since 2012? Teague, Snell, Murphy, McDermott, Bairstow, Portis, Valentine, Zipser.’’
And don’t forget Erik Murphy, who, at last look, was coming off the bench for a French team.
Tweet from Joseph Carano: “This is why I have no interest in this team. They keep the problems and get rid of the solutions.’’
Dang, and the Bulls had a 50/50 chance of getting it right, which is more than you can say about their draft record.
Tweet from Boomer J.: “No hate mail here. Just grateful for your column and humor and solid knowledge.’’
You must be new here.
Email from Jerry M.: “What do you think the succession plan is for the Sox when Jerry relinquishes control ? Another partner or a sale or ? Think it might happen soon ?’’
Bad news: I believe Gar Forman takes over.
Emailer Gary P.: “New England’s worst starter on either side of the ball is a Bears’ former No. 1.’’
We’re talking proud.
Tweet from Tom P.: “Did they really have the audacity to RAISE ticket prices??’’
If there’s ever a Super Bowl for doing the absolute wrong thing at the wrong time, I think we know who the heavy favorite is.
Tweet from Greg Landry: “You really captured the spirit of the thing.’’
Tried. Tried to capture the spirit of the thing.
Email from Joseph: “’Hatebook.’ Really have to love a guy who devotes his life to spewing and encouraging hate speech. What a sad, lonely existence you must have.’’
It’s a living.
