Cloudbeds, the hotel management platform that drives more bookings and happier guests for lodging businesses around the world, announced the launch of its State of Independent Accommodation report. Leveraging a wealth of aggregated and anonymized data from around the world , Cloudbeds has identified the trends that are changing travel. These trends include value-oriented decision making, the preference for virtual receptions, the meeting between travel packages and hybrid hotels, new technologies that are revolutionizing travel search, and the exchange of amenities for experiences. The report highlights the following information: Average Daily Rate (ADR) and Occupancy• Prices increased between 2019 and 2020, and continued to rise in 2021 and 2022. In 2022, they exceeded the 2019 ADR by 17%.• Occupancy rates they increased to more than 50% in 2022. Booking sources • In 2019, OTA bookings were 57% of the total, while non-OTA bookings were the remaining 43%. During the pandemic, direct bookings increased due to cutbacks in OTA advertising. • In 2022, travel demand favored OTAs, returning to 2019 levels. Booking Window • In 2019, the global booking window had a mean duration of 34 days. During the pandemic it was reduced due to the tendency to book at the last minute. • In 2022, the pent-up demand for travel raised the booking window. In North America, it surpassed 2019 levels in 5 days, in Europe in 2 days. In the Asia Pacific region, restrictions kept the booking window 5 days shorter than average in 2019.Length of stay• Over the past 4 years, the majority of travelers booked stays of 1-2 nights, followed by stays of 3 to 4. These two durations accounted for 74% of the total in 2022. • Work and leisure trips typically last 3 to 6 days, and are on the rise in North America, exceeding 2019 levels by 3%.
