NYON, Switzerland, Feb. 3, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — At an exclusive event at the Glass House in New York on February 2, Hublot and Takashi Murakami announced their fourth joint art project: the launch of thirteen new NFTs and thirteen unique watches.

“When my collaboration with Hublot was announced, we let it be known that we would embrace new forms of artistic expression. After creating all the watches together, as well as the digital artworks, we are imagining new ways to access contemporary art.” –Takashi Murakami

The thirteen unique NFTs are inspired by 1970s Japanese TV and video games, as well as the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami All Black, the first collaboration between the Swiss watchmaker and Takashi Murakami released in January 2021. These NFTs are tied to a limited edition of 13 new and exclusive Classic Fusion watches that will be at Watches

Hublot and Takashi Murakami take the watch as a work of art to a new level, bridging the gap between fine watchmaking and digital art. The thirteenth watch in the collection, presented in New York, is the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Black Ceramic Rainbow and it is also the masterpiece. Taking inspiration from the two previously released pieces, this watch reinterprets Takashi Murakami’s iconic emblem: the smiling flower. Here, the 12 flower petals form a perfect gradient of rubies, sapphires, amethysts, tsavorites, and topazes. Thanks to an ingenious ball-bearing system developed by Hublot engineers, the petals create a dizzying spectacle of color by rotating on an axis with each movement. The kinetic effect of the petals creates a striking effect on the 45mm black ceramic case. The center of the smiling flower is set on top of the sapphire crystal to create a three-dimensional effect.

The other twelve references, which can be purchased by NFT holders on the dedicated e-commerce platform, are reminiscent of the master flower and represent one of the petals. Twelve references for twelve hours on the dial and twelve NFT.

As the third watchmaking collaboration between Hublot and the Japanese artist, this launch is proof of the incredible collectibility of this partnership.

Collectors will have a period of one year during which they will have the opportunity to exchange the twelve NFTs on the OpenSea platform. In April 2024, at the end of this period, only the collector who has managed to collect all twelve new unique NFTs will be able to acquire the thirteenth and most coveted watch: the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Black Ceramic Rainbow. If no one has managed to collect all twelve NFTs, the watch will be auctioned off by Hublot to raise funds for charity.
