The high-tech facility received the gold certification for green buildings from the German Council for Sustainable Building (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen), internationally recognized as an independent world benchmark in sustainability. Thus, the Dannstadt service center is designed and ideally situated to serve customers committed to reducing the environmental impact of their end-to-end supply chain operations and focused on Scope 3 emissions, those indirect emissions that are produced in the upstream and downstream activities of an organization, such as packaging and transportation.

In terms of automation and digitization, the Dannstadt service center is one of the most modern and technologically sophisticated facilities of its kind in Europe. Equipped with an automated case sorting and recognition system, the entire high pressure washing and sanitizing process is fully automated and designed to handle and sort all sizes and types of IFCO RPCs. In addition, IFCO’s SmartCycle washing process maximizes water reuse while meeting global hygiene and food safety standards. Validated by both IFCO and independent food safety experts, the process removes customer-approved labels efficiently and reliably.

A central heat and power plant supplies energy to a resource-efficient air-to-water heat pump, which powers the washing machines and heats the water used in the laundry center. This innovative concept allows IFCO to reduce gas consumption and associated CO emissions by around 23% compared to a standard service center in Europe.
