– The Saudi Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources affirms at the London conference: “Saudi Arabia will become a leader in the sustainable production of metals, for the benefit of the transition to net zero”
His Excellency Khalid Al-Mudaifer, Deputy Minister of Mining Affairs, Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, made the case for urgently investing in mineral and metal extraction and value chains in Saudi Arabia
LONDON, Dec. 2, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — International delegates and global mining investors attending the Mines and Money conference in London have heard how Saudi Arabia argues that the energy transition from hydrocarbons to renewables is opening up the path to becoming a world leader in the sustainable and innovative production of minerals and metals, especially as a vast, new and largely untapped mineral super-region is emerging, stretching from Africa to Central Asia.
His Excellency Khalid Al-Mudaifer, in a keynote speech at the event, commented that minerals are indispensable for the energy shift towards renewables:
“Decarbonization – the transition to net zero – cannot happen without minerals and metals: lots of minerals and metals. We have to increase discoveries and production.
In terms of phosphate fertilizer production alone, the kingdom has already become the world leader.
The kingdom stabilized the aluminum markets by building an industrial city focused on extracting and producing end products for the world. And collaborating with well-known EV manufacturers such as Lucid Motors and automotive suppliers such as EV Metals to build an integrated EV manufacturing complex.
H.E., the deputy minister, further noted important projects such as the Kingdom’s work on hydrogen, with the KSA setting up the world’s largest green hydrogen plant.
From KSA they stressed that it is ripe for investment, not only in its Arabian Shield region, but also to help spearhead mineral extraction in the super region:
“We are well placed to continue to expand mining and build integrated value chains. We have a stable government and stable fiscal policies. We have experience. We have low-cost energy. We also have excellent infrastructure.”
H.E., the Deputy Minister, renewed invitations for delegates to attend the second edition of the Future Minerals Forum, which advocates for the future of mining, attracts massive investment and builds strong partnerships in Saudi Arabia and across the mining super-region stretching from Africa to Western and Central Asia.
The forum kicks off on January 10, 2023 with an influential panel discussion of government ministers and their representatives, followed by two days of conference and exhibition attended by 6,000 delegates.
