BEIJING, April 21, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — The 6th Suzhou Jinji Lake Biennale kicked off on April 15 at the Suzhou Industrial Park in east China’s Jiangsu Province.
With the theme “Vivid Jiangnan, Charming Suzhou”, this year’s Biennale organizes three theme exhibitions, an academic forum and 20 side exhibitions, with more than 2,000 works on display and more than 300 cultural and artistic activities to be held. It will last until June 25.
Wu Weishan, an internationally renowned sculptor and director of the National Art Museum of China and vice president of the China Artists Association, was invited to preside over the academic activities of the Biennale. Other renowned artists from home and abroad were also invited to present the three theme exhibitions at the opening ceremony.
A total of 90 percent of the exhibits at the “We’re Better Off” International Contemporary Art Exhibition are shown in China for the first time. The 6th China Youth Sculpture Exhibition brings together more than 100 innovative works by young sculptors from all over China. The “Rainbow – From the World of Bridges” Contemporary Art Exhibition interprets Jiangnan culture through artistic works using Suzhou’s bridges as media.
The 20 parallel exhibitions, focusing on contemporary trends, new modern art, and throwback to the classics, offer a comprehensive presentation of the cultural ecology of Suzhou’s modern and contemporary art.
By relying on the alliances in art, reading and art galleries, as well as companies, commercial areas and other operators, and through the combination of online and offline methods, the more than 300 cultural and artistic activities will create festivals of diversified and all-weather art for the people, helping to promote cultural consumption and build the economy of the business area.
The Suzhou Jinji Lake Biennale has been successfully held for five sessions since 2012, attracting more than 1,500 artists from around the world and 20 million visitors with more than 5,000 excellent works of art from home and abroad.
Covering sculpture, international design, installation, multimedia and other art forms, the Biennale has become not only a well-known brand in the world, but also a shining symbol of Suzhou culture and art.
