BARCELONA, Spain, Nov. 17, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The Smart City Expo World Congress 2022 will be remembered as one of the best city design forums of recent times. For three days, the largest international event for cities brings together some 20,000 experts, academics, representatives of cities, international organizations and technology companies in Barcelona to address the future of cities from sustainability, inclusion, digital rights , resilience and, above all, human centrality.
This year, the jewel in the crown is the Madinah City Pavilion. About 200 m2 of culture, innovation and tranquility, in a stand inspired, above all, by citizens.
Invited by the Smart Cities World Congress, the Al-Madinah Region Development Authority (MDA) is participating to share its experiences and knowledge in the field of smart cities at the Al-Madinah Pavilion at SCEWC22.
Throughout the first and second days of the event, MDA has participated in different World Congress panel sessions with well-known thought leaders, to share the orientations of Al-Madinah’s human-centered smart city and the use of technology as a means of support rather than as an objective. “We have moved from a supply-based approach to a demand-based one. Our fundamental goal is to improve the lives of Madinah citizens and visitors. We want to be the calmest Smart City in the world,” said Abdulrahman Ibrahim, Chief Data Officer and Innovation of the MDA.
The Al-Madinah pavilion at the Smart Cities Expo displays units showing a 3D model of the Prophet’s Mosque, the Smart Madinah Strategy, the Absher Platform, the Raseel Platform for Smart Cities, the Labaih Platform for Psychological Counseling, and the Virtual Academy of Medicine. Culture, hospitality and technology come together in a carefully designed space, making it one of the most visited stands at the Congress.
Notably, Al-Madinah has been listed on the IMD Smart Cities Index since last year (2021); it ranks second nationally after Riyadh, fourth regionally, and 72nd globally, ahead of other international ancient and historic cities. Al-Madinah is the only Arab and Asian city to be in the top ten to adopt the ISO smart city indicators published by the World Cities Data Council.
