– Net Zero Carbon Smart Campus, built by Yancheng Power Supply Company of State Grid Jiangsu and Huawei, wins Energy Globe Award
SHENZHEN, China, Nov. 20, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — The Energy Globe Award ceremony was recently held in Shenzhen. The Net Zero Carbon Smart Campus in China’s Jiangsu Province, jointly carried out by Huawei and State Grid, was the only Chinese project to receive this award. The award recognizes the outstanding contributions made by Yancheng Power Supply Company of State Grid Jiangsu and Huawei Electric Power Digitalization BU in areas of energy transition and green and sustainable development. Birgit Murr, Commercial Consul and Acting Head of the Consulate General of Austria in Guangzhou and presenter of the award, stated that “the Net Zero Carbon Smart Campus in Jiangsu Province of China has gained international recognition as a model of global carbon neutrality and sustainable development”.
Organized by the independent Global Energy Foundation of Austria and co-sponsored by international organizations such as the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Action, the prize was awarded to a select few among more of 1,000 projects. The world’s best energy experts made their selection over several rounds to find the best candidates.
The award-winning project was led by Anthony Hu of Huawei and was based on his proposed T3 transformation model of energy transformation, zero-carbon transformation and digital transformation. Project participants created three scenario applications that focused on smart energy management, zero carbon emissions, and smart campuses.
Spanning 25.7 acres, this project encompasses 134,000 square meters of green construction focused on principles such as green design, economic efficiency, intelligence, sharing and demonstration. With five core values - net zero carbon energy supply, multi-energy coordination, optimal energy efficiency, digital empowerment and cross-border innovation – the project integrates renewable energy, centralized and distributed energy systems, hydrogen and energy storage.
Additionally, the project and solution won the Champion Award at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) 2022 in June 2022, and was awarded one of the 10 Best Global Projects of 2022 Paulson Sustainability Award. The project’s core theories, architectures and models have won two awards for best paper and best report at the IEEE International Conference on Energy Internet and Energy Systems Integration and the International Energy and Power Development Forum 2023.
