WARSAW, Poland, Dec. 19, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Presenting the achievements of the Polish energy sector and introducing the industry’s plans for the coming years are the main issues raised in the “Polish Energy Transition Path” report . The analysis has been prepared by EY and the Polish Electricity Association (PKEE).
The PKEE, whose supporting members are the largest Polish companies and industrial organizations in the energy sector, has produced the report with the aim of presenting Poland’s achievements in energy transition. Another objective of the report is to familiarize the reader with the magnitude of the challenges facing the Polish energy sector as a result of the implementation of climate and energy policies, both in the EU and in Poland, and to indicate the impact that destabilization of the market will have within the energy transition.
“We are at a decisive moment for the European energy sector. Many experts say that we are facing the biggest energy crisis since the 1970s. It will be the joint effort of the entire energy sector, the member states and the EU institutions that will “It will determine the moment and the conditions in which the European Union will recover from this crisis. I am convinced that Poland can take advantage of the current crisis to build a strong, independent, supportive and environmentally friendly energy sector” – said Wojciech DÄ…browski, CEO of the Board of Directors of PKEE.
The scope of the transformation of the Polish energy sector is broader and more expensive than in an average EU country. The Polish energy sector, as a consequence of historical and geopolitical conditions, was dominated by fossil fuels: hard coal and lignite. Despite this, the gradual and constant increase in the share of energy produced from low-emission and zero-emission sources equates to the systematically decreasing impact of energy production in Poland in relation to the natural environment.
“The report entitled “Polish Energy Transition Path”, prepared by the Polish electricity sector, allows us to understand how we have reached these conclusions and where we are today in terms of the development of the energy sector and the way out of the energy crisis. The evolution of the Polish electricity sector, carried out consistently since 1989, when Poland regained economic sovereignty, is of vital importance in this case.” Dabrowski explained.
The report also addresses the most current problems facing the energy sector and that are derived from the Russian invasion of Ukraine and also from the energy crisis.
