New concept: commerce and culture tell the story of currencies in the Millennial Capital of Porcelain
In Hall 3 of Ceramic Expo City, traditional ceramic decorative patterns and experiential activity of traditional porcelain-making techniques have attracted people’s attention. Shoppers stop to ask questions and visitors compete to experience.
The accumulation of history has created the unique cultural charm and artistic atmosphere of Jingdezhen, attracting artisans from all over the country who make ceramics here and sell them everywhere, for since ancient times, Jingdezhen has been a city of immigrants, where a large number of qualified craftsmen from abroad gathered.
This year’s week-long Ceramics Exhibition has attracted people from different countries, with different skin colors and speaking different languages by holding many new themed activities, such as ceramic culture exhibitions and exchange activities, that combine commerce and culture.
The heritage of ceramic culture and the protection of traditional crafts become a new concept for this year’s exhibition.
“The Expo provides us with a platform for communication and cooperation,” said José María Chinoyosa Sareto, general director of the Spanish company Magina. He was looking forward to this visit to Jingdezhen, hoping to gain a deeper understanding of ceramic culture in China and achieve greater cooperation.
A piece of porcelain connects mountains and seas, and an exhibition unites the world. Taking advantage of the Expo, Jingdezhen engages in dialogue with the world and tells the wonderful story of “China and Porcelain”.
New link: link the world with “The Belt and Road”
Porcelain, as a symbol of traditional Chinese culture, has built a bridge across mountains and seas in the history of cultural exchange between China and foreign countries.
From the ancient Silk Road to “The Belt and Road”, Jingdezhen, with a long-lasting kiln fire, still has the most complete and perfect hand-made porcelain system in the world. The “Jingdezhen style” that could be seen everywhere in the porcelain exhibition areas has once again become a “fashion item”.
The year 2023 is also the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative. This year’s exhibition has invited many international ceramic brands to participate in the exhibition and established an international ceramic zone in the Mall, which has attracted more than 40 international brands.
Jingdezhen’s gene has been imbued with “openness” since ancient times. Since the Song Dynasty, Jingdezhen porcelain has been exported in large quantities, spreading from Central Asia and Western Asia to the European and African continents.
Professor Hu Ping of Nanchang University, who has studied Jingdezhen for a long time, said that according to historical records, between 1729 and 1794, the Dutch East India Company shipped 43 million pieces of Chinese porcelain. From the late Ming Dynasty to the early Qing Dynasty, approximately 300 million pieces of Chinese porcelain arrived in Europe, with the main production being blue and white porcelain and colored porcelain from the Jingdezhen folk kilns.
The “China (Jingdezhen) Ceramics Cross-border Sourcing Matchmaking Meeting 2023” held on the opening day of the Expo was the third international direct procurement matching event held during the Ceramics Expo.
In order to better serve enterprises, this matchmaking meeting innovated its working methods, providing business opportunities for foreign buyers to purchase Jingdezhen ceramic products through offline exhibition or direct procurement and for ceramic enterprises from Jiangxi explore foreign markets.
About 250 professional buyers from 60 countries and about 130 local companies held individual business negotiations during the matchmaking meeting.
The story that began on the ancient Silk Road continues today. Jingdezhen, the ancient capital of China that has been integrated into the joint construction of the “Belt and Road”, continues to write the history of “dialogue” with the world.
