Spain, April 3, 2023.

According to official data, despite the war in Ukraine and inflation, the increase in tourism in Spain is expected to reach historic levels. The Guiavi tourist activities platform is optimistic with these encouraging figures for the sector after having fully suffered the crisis caused by Covid-19

The latest data on the forecasts of the tourism sector in Spain estimate that there will be more than 85 million tourists in 2023. Quite optimistic figures taking into account that in 2019 the record was broken with 83 million visitors. Agencies specializing in tour sales, Excursions and guided tours as important as Guiavi or Civitatis, are registering a significant increase in reservations for tourist activities for spring and summer. On the other hand, hotel chains and airlines have had to strengthen their supply due to demand. A reflection of this increase is that most airlines have had to double the frequency of their flights to specific destinations. Increase in average spending To these figures must be added the increase in tourism spending. According to data from the National Institute of Statistics, the total expenditure of visitors who arrived in Spain up to January 2023 stood at 5,218 million, which represents a notable increase of 71.7% compared to the same date last year. It also reflects that average daily spending has increased by 19.3%, placing the figure at 148 euros per person. Given these promising forecasts, the Minister of Tourism María Reyes Maroto has stated that the strength of tourism is a reflection of the measures taken by the government after the pandemic. Origin of tourism The highest percentage of tourists by country is led by the United Kingdom with 21.10% of the total. In second place is France, which rises to 14.09%, followed closely by visitors from Germany with 13.63%. What do tourists value in Spain as a tourist destination? More than half of the tourism that Spain receives (52.3%) does so with a view to enjoying the sun and the beach. Another large percentage (39%) is focused on learning about cultural aspects and relaxation, while cruise trips account for 12.8%.Guiavi, a platform specialized in booking tours and excursions in Spanish, highlights the change in behavior regarding the way to book tourist activities. Now vacation trips are organized with very little notice in anticipation of the experience lived during the pandemic. But still, many more reservations are being registered than in previous years.
