JAKARTA, Indonesia, July 5, 2023/PRNewswire/ — Within the framework of the 10th World Water Forum (WWF), the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) and the Jakarta Foreign Correspondents Club (JFCC) jointly organized a panel discussion titled “Road to the 10th World Water Forum: Policy, Technology and Investment Opportunity in Water Resources Management” on (04/07).

During his opening remarks, Special Adviser to the Republic of Indonesia Minister of Public Works and Housing on Technology, Industry and Environment Endra Saleh Atmawidjaja said, “It is an honor for Indonesia to host the 10th World Water Forum and be a leader in assessing world water problems. Our aim is to promote peace, independence and prosperity in terms of the availability of water resources.”

The panel discussion featured WWF 10th Asia Pacific Regional Director Yoon-jin Kim, Special Adviser to the PUPR Minister for Water Resources Firdaus Ali, Director General of Public Information and Communication, Ministry of Communication and Informatics Usman Kansong, Director of Perum Jasa Tirta II Imam Santoso, Director of Government Affairs of Danone Indonesia Rachmat Hidayat and President of the Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO) Shinta Kamdani.

Firdaus Ali said: “The Indonesian government has carried out projects to develop the water sector, one of which is the construction of dams, with a target of 57-59m³ per capita/year.” He also mentioned that the main challenge in the water sector is sustainable financing through public-private partnerships.

In line with the Ministry of PUPR, APINDO, Perum Jasa Tirta II and Danone Indonesia, agreed that the public and private sector need a new strategy to establish sustainable financing and investment in water.

APINDO President Shinta Kamdani explained: “There are three conditions for establishing a good public-private partnership in sustainable water financing, namely trust between the government and the private sector, the partnership model in which all win and the sustainability of the association”. She also mentioned that with government policies and incentives, the private sector can play a greater role in establishing green finance that considers the social and environmental impacts of economic activities.

As a closing statement, Yoon-jin Kim highlighted the importance of the upcoming forum to assess practical strategies and solutions to global water challenges.
