RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Aug. 28, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Transport and Logistics Services launched the master plan for the logistics hubs, which aims to further develop the logistics sector infrastructure in the Kingdom, diversify the local economy and strengthen the Kingdom’s position as a leading investment destination and global logistics hub.

HRH the Crown Prince stated that the logistics hubs master plan is an extension of ongoing initiatives to strengthen the Kingdom’s logistics sector, in line with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS). The objective is to develop the logistics sector to support economic growth and improve local, regional and international connectivity for international trade networks and global supply chains. In addition, the plan aims to foster partnerships with the private sector, expand job opportunities and strengthen the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics hub, taking advantage of its strategic geographic location connecting three main continents: Asia, Europe and Africa.

The Logistics Center Master Plan outlines 59 centers, spread across Saudi Arabia’s key strategic regions, with a total area of more than 100 million square meters. These include 12 logistics centers for the Riyadh region, 12 for the Mecca region, 17 for the Eastern Province and 18 in the other regions of the Kingdom. Ongoing work is focused on 21 hubs, with the goal of completing all hubs by 2030. The hubs will enable local industries to efficiently export Saudi products, as well as support e-commerce by facilitating fast connections between logistics hubs and distribution centers within various regions, cities and provinces of the Kingdom. The plan also facilitates high-level monitoring and eases the process of obtaining logistics activity licences, particularly with the introduction of the unified logistics license. So far, the license has been granted to more than 1,500 local, regional and international logistics companies, in addition to launching FASAH, the two-hour leave initiative in collaboration with relevant government entities.

The logistics services sector represents a promising pillar for economic and development diversity in the Kingdom. It is witnessing a series of qualitative initiatives and significant advances aimed at achieving a substantial leap in the sector’s growth and expanding its economic and development contributions. The Ministry of Transport and Logistics Services (MOTLS) operates under a model that seeks to develop the logistics services industry, improve export strategies, expand investment opportunities, and establish partnerships with the private sector.

It is worth mentioning that in April 2023, the Kingdom made a significant achievement in the transportation and logistics system by jumping 17 places globally in the World Bank Logistics Performance Index, advancing to 38th position out of 160 countries in the international ranking of logistics efficiency. The MOTLS has also recently launched a series of initiatives in the logistics sector to improve performance efficiencies, redesign processes and implement global best practices in this vital sector to enhance the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics hub. These initiatives include the launch of the private logistics zone integrated into the King Salman International Airport in Riyadh, with Apple being the first international investor in the zone. One of the key priorities of the NTLS is to place the Kingdom in the top 10 countries in the world in the Logistics Performance Index by the year 2030.
