The Spanish player Selena Romero in the women’s category and the also Spaniard Roberto Pérez in the men’s category were the winners of the International under-16 tennis tournament – 22nd Nacho Juncosa Memorial, organized by the Associació Esportiva Nacho Juncosa and held at the facilities of the Club Tennis Vic .
Selena Romero, who started as the number 6 seed in the tournament, defeated the player Oliwia Sybicka (Poland), number 4 seed, in the final by 4-6 7-5 6-3. For his part, Roberto Pérez, seed number 4 of the tournament, beat the Italian and seed number 5 of the tournament, Niccolo Satta, 7-5 6-2 in the final.
In the doubles category, the Italians Federico Gargano and Niccolo Satta in the men’s team have won 6-3 6-3 against their compatriots Alessandro Maina and Francesco Pansecchi and in the women’s team, the couple formed by the Czech Nikol Marie Jarolimkova and the Poland’s Oliwia Sybicka were the winners after beating the Cypriot Nina Andronicou and the Russian Vlada Razina 3-6 7-5 10-7 in the final.
The tournament, which in this edition has had the participation of 35 nationalities, arouses great interest each year among young athletes, obtaining a total of 356 registrations. The Nacho Juncosa Memorial is part of the official calendar of the Tennis Europe Junior Tour and has the maximum grade 1 category awarded by Tennis Europe (TE) and the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
During the week of the tournament and faithful to the social vocation of the Associació Esportiva Nacho Juncosa, a tennis master class was held for members of the Fundació Sant Tomàs that works to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities or difficulties development and their families.
During the award ceremony, the President of the Catalan Tennis Federation and vice-president of the RFET attended, among others, Mr. Jordi Tamayo, the Sports Councilor of the city of VIC, Mr. Xavier Comerma, the president of the Nacho Juncosa Sports Association, Mr. José Ignacio Juncosa, the president of Club Tennis Vic, Mr. Miquel Vilardell, the director of institutional relations of the AENJ, Mrs. Maite Juncosa and the director of the tournament, Mr. James Cors.
