JOHANNESBURG, Aug. 21, 2023/PRNewswire/ — The Sixth BRICS Media Forum kicked off here in South Africa on Saturday, calling for strengthening the voices of developing countries.
Around 200 deputies from around 100 media outlets, think tanks and international organizations from some 30 countries held discussions under the theme “BRICS and Africa: Strengthening Media Dialogue for a Shared and Fair Future”.
The media of the BRICS countries have significant responsibilities in this era and enjoy wide space for cooperation, said Fu Hua, executive chairman of the BRICS Media Forum, at the forum’s opening ceremony.

Andrey Kondrashov, director general of Russia’s TASS news agency, said that over the past decade, the forum has become a distinctive and iconic platform for discussing media cooperation between member states. He called on the BRICS media to help counter disinformation and safeguard the interests of developing countries.
José Juan Sánchez, head of the Brazilian financial and agricultural information provider CMA Group, stressed the importance of credible and unbiased news reporting. “Communication between the BRICS media is crucial and member countries should pursue sustainable development in the economic, environmental and social fields,” he said.
The BRICS Media Forum has made significant contributions to amplifying the international voice of member states and promoting globalization, with peace and cooperation being its main objectives, said Helio Doyle, president of the Brazilian Communication Company.
The diverse cultures of the BRICS nations enrich global conversations, and the BRICS media advocates for an inclusive, cooperative and just new world order, said Iqbal Surve, CEO of Independent Media of South Africa.
