Table8, the last-minute reservation service for in-demand restaurants, said it will shut down Feb. 28 after it failed to secure enough funding to continue.

Table8 is in a total of 13 cities, including Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Denver, Miami and New Orleans. The company announced the planned closure in an email to members Wednesday.

"Nearly three years ago, we set out on a mission to make finding and booking great restaurants easier and more democratic, co-founder and CEO Pete Goettner said in the message. "We have enjoyed helping you find great restaurants, access tough-to-book reservations and discover local chef events."

The service works like this: Restaurants set aside tables for Table8 members, and members pay a $20 to $30 fee to reserve a spot. That fee is typically split between Table8 and the restaurant and is waived if the restaurant’s other tables are fully booked.

The San Francisco-based service launched in Chicago in April 2015 with a handful of high-end restaurants. There were about 65 restaurant options available for same-day reservations Wednesday afternoon.
