Broadcom had offered 117 billion dollars to take over – it would have been by far most expensive takeover in technology industry.

Trump had blocked sale with a reference to a threat to national security and thus followed a recommendation from Committee for Foreign Investment in US (CFIUS). In case of foreign takeovers, panel examines wher y endanger national security of United States.

In case of Broadcam and Qualcomm, such a Test concluded that a takeover could delay changeover of US mobile networks to wireless 5g. Qualcomm is an important developer of technologies for this fast mobile. Connections from Broadcom subsidiaries to China are said to have been crucial to veto trumps – US fears that it will be in field of radio communications depending on China.
