Thanks to global trade and the rise of globalisation, more companies today are engaged with different partners and customers all over the world. If you regularly do business with other companies in various parts of the globe, there may be occasions when you have to send parcels or packages as well. The same is true if you are an e-commerce business and you have to send out packages to customers who order your wares online. There are a number of ways you can ship parcels to various locations, but if you are shipping a parcel from the UK, there are some recommended ways to do it as well. If you are in the business of sending parcels and packages from the UK to other countries, the following is the best and quickest way to prepare and pack your parcels for shipping.
- Do it individually. If you want your parcel and its contents to arrive in the best condition (without any damage or without getting delayed or lost in transit), you should wrap each item individually. By doing this, each piece will be better protected.
- You should also make use of the proper materials for packing, such as polystyrene, foam, and bubble wrap. This is best used for the internal packaging of your parcel, especially if you have items which may be delicate or fragile. Once you have wrapped or packed the item using the proper material, you should then make use of an inner box such as the white postal boxes from UK Packaging, which are known for their self-locking tabs and double-lined siding, and make sure there is no space inside where the item can move or shift whilst being transported. After you have secured the inner box, place it in a strong outer box as well. The outer box will serve as the actual box where you will place the label and address of the recipient.
- To add more protection and to make the package more secure, make use of strong packaging tape (not just standard tape or masking tape) and make sure to tape the outer box’s edges so everything is securely in place, and there is less risk of the box becoming crumpled or damaged or being opened by accident.
- When choosing an outer box for your package, it’s best to use heavy-duty boxes made of strong, corrugated cardboard. Avoid using old boxes since you never know how sturdy they are. It’s always better to use new ones every time.
- Make sure that the details of the recipient’s address can’t be smudged or damaged by water. The parcel’s customs paperwork and documents should also be well-fastened and secured to the box.
- Even if you have opted for same day or next day delivery, you still need to make sure that your parcel’s packaging is as secure as possible. Investing a few minutes in wrapping, packaging, and securing your parcel correctly can save you a lot of time and hassle in the end.
Here’s another reason why you should use a new box every time – a lot of old boxes may still have old labels attached, and some of these labels can be mistaken for the new labels. This can be particularly difficult if the old label specifies dangerous goods; the courier can easily make the mistake of identifying the old labels on the box rather than the new one, and your parcel may then be delayed or even sent back to you. But with the proper box and the correct labels, you can rest easier knowing that your parcel will be less likely to be delayed, lost, damaged, or returned.
