BARCELONA, 23 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –
CaixaBank will extend the validity period of its cards from five to seven years to “reduce the consumption of plastic in the manufacturing process of physical supports”.
In a statement this Wednesday, the entity explained that seven years is the estimated period of operation “in perfect condition” of the electronic components of the cards.
CaixaBank has ensured that 80% of the new cards are already being issued with the new validity period and that, since 2022, it has recycled material “corresponding to more than 8 million cards” that have expired.
The initiative “adds to the substitution of plastic for recycled materials” that CaixaBank started in 2021 and has already generated some 20.86 million cards with ecological materials.
Despite this, the company’s objective is to “promote the use of digital cards” and double 25% of current purchases made through mobile payment in the next three years.
