MADRID, 17 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The First Vice President of the Government and Minister of Economic Affairs and for Digital Transformation, Nadia Calviño, announced this Monday that the Spanish Government will request the European Commission the third disbursement of European funds before November 11.
“Last year we sent the request on November 11 and we will do it before that date,” Calviño responded when asked when Spain will ask Brussels for the third payment of European reconstruction funds.
Calviño, in statements to RNE collected by Europa Press, has assured that Spain is in constant contact with the Commission and has denied the information that was published a few days ago in some media that Brussels has threatened Spain with not giving it more funds due to lack of transparency in their management.
In this regard, the First Vice President stressed that “there are many people who have not understood” that these funds have monitoring mechanisms that are different from the structural funds, for example, through compliance with the promised reforms, and has insisted that the Government has placed a “huge emphasis” on transparency.
“I appear every quarter, I make presentations, we have all kinds of reports on the website and we are in constant contact with the autonomous communities (…) They are European funds that work differently from those of the past and require much more responsibility and agility of public administrations. We have a very good rhythm, we are the country that is most advanced, and we have to continue like this”, pointed out the vice-president.
Calviño has insisted that the Spanish government is doing “serious and responsible work” with the European Commission to ensure that the flow of funds is maintained.
