MADRID, 5 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The First Vice President of the Government and Minister for Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calviño, has assured that the boycott of Spanish strawberries by German supermarkets “was seen coming from the first moment”.

“From the first moment we have expressed our concern and I, honestly, was coming; it was coming that this type of irresponsible action with a jewel of our heritage such as Doñana was going to have a negative impact on our image, which indirectly will affect to these farmers who have a high prestige in international markets”, Calviño lamented in an interview on TVE collected by Europa Press when asked about the visit of German deputies to inquire about the situation of the Andalusian wetland.

The Vice President of the Government has expressed the Government’s support for the agri-food sector and has accused the PP of “damaging the interest of farmers”. “We have every interest in accompanying the agricultural sector so that it becomes increasingly sustainable with a more efficient use of water, which is the complete opposite of what the PP government does,” Calviño indicated.

Likewise, he recalled that Spain “is aligned with the most advanced countries, sharing a vision of a greener Europe, looking to the future, and more modern”. Faced with this, he has alluded to the Popular Party that “tries to ignore climate change as if it were not a scientific fact to which we must respond.”
