Challenge Feijóo to reveal who will lead the economic policy of the PP to have a debate with him
MADRID, 25 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The First Vice President and Minister of Economy, Nadia Calviño, has warned that a government of PP and Vox after the elections on July 23 “would mean a slowdown” of European funds and has insisted on the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, that make it known who will lead your economic policy.
In statements to the media before attending the inauguration of the Socialist Youth Congress in Madrid, Calviño stressed that for European funds the Government is fulfilling some commitments that “would be interrupted” with an Executive led by the also candidate from the PP to the Presidency for the “radical change of course” that it would give by “starting to repeal everything”.
“What takes many decades to advance can be lost in a few hours, in a few days,” he warned, also pointing to the possibility of “going back” in the social rights won.
Calviño has also criticized the “economic denialism” of the PP, which he has accused of not taking into account the “reality” of the Spanish economy which, as he has claimed, is “growing strongly.”
“First Mr. (the former leader of the PP, Pablo) Casado and now Mr. Feijóo, have been making catastrophic predictions, saying that an economic apocalypse was coming, which demonstrates their absolute lack of credibility in economic matters,” he pointed out in this regard.
In this sense, he has underlined the “need” for the PP to make known who will lead its economic policy and has indicated that the vice president of the European Central Bank (ECB) Luis de Guindos is “the only name with some experience as a couple to be a minister “That he has been heard as a possible person in charge of the matter, but” not even he wants to participate in an eventual Feijóo government.
“Our economic policy works. What is your alternative proposal, Mr. Feijóo? What are those deep and courageous reforms that you say you are going to implement? What are you going to do with pensions? What are you going to do with the minimum wage? What are you going to do with the labor reform? What are you going to do with the future of our children and grandchildren?”, Calviño questioned, to urge an “open debate” on the Spanish economy in which the PP details your agenda in this area.
Calviño has also referred to the presidency of the European Investment Bank (EIB) and has ensured that Spain will present an “optimal candidate” “in time and form”, although it has ruled out its candidacy because it is “absolutely committed to the project led by by President Pedro Sánchez”.
On the other hand, Calviño thanked the Socialist Youth for their “active” participation at this time “of great changes at a global level” and highlighted the Government’s commitment to “build a better future for the younger generations” with measures on of education, housing, the environment and labor improvements such as the extension of paternity and maternity leave to 20 weeks or a law that establishes that the Minimum Interprofessional Wage (SMI) is “always” 60% of the average salary.
