The number of reports to the Department of Youth Protection (DPJ) of Chaudière-Appalaches increased by 14.1% compared to the previous year. For the second year in a row, cases of physical abuse represent the problem most often denounced before neglect.

The Chaudière-Appalaches DYP processed 7,607 reports in 2021-2022 compared to 6,665 last year, which represents an increase of 14.1%.
Of this number, 2,431 reports were retained, a decrease of 3.6%.
As for the Capitale-Nationale, we received 10,518 reports during the year, a decrease of 1% compared to the previous year. The number of reports retained (3,942) represents a drop of 5.8%.
For all of Quebec, the number of reports processed is up sharply (12.5%) compared to last year with 132,632. However, the number of reports retained has slightly decreased (– 2.3%) with 43,688.
“Once again this year, we have seen a considerable increase in the number of reports. Every day, more and more children and adolescents with anxiety disorders or major adjustment difficulties are in distress and face real suffering,” said Patrick Corriveau, Director of Youth Protection. of the National Capital.
“However, the specialized services they need are not always available in a timely manner. (…) There is still a lot to do to achieve our ideal as a caring society for these children,” he added.
“Beyond words, concrete actions must be taken to demonstrate that in Quebec, children are a real priority,” said Mr. Corriveau.
