Four unions representing more than 200 staff members of the LaSalle Long-Term Care Center are demonstrating on Wednesday to denounce the toxic work climate that has persisted for a year.
The demonstration is scheduled for 11 a.m. in front of the establishment by the Canadian Union of Public Employees, the Quebec Interprofessional Health Federation, the Quebec Union of Service Employees and the Alliance of Professional and Technical Personnel of the health and social services.
The four trade union organizations deplore in particular the “authoritarian and archaic” style of management of the administration, pressure concerning compulsory overtime and circumvention of collective agreements.
“The management of the CIUSSS has been well aware of the problem for more than a year, but seems outdated and lets it continue,” denounced CUPE Local 2881, the FIQ, the FTQ and the APTS in a joint press release.
“Despite the sense of duty and the best efforts of the staff, it is certain that such a toxic climate has adverse effects on the beneficiaries and their families”, mentioned the four unions.
They are calling for an emergency meeting with the management of the CIUSSS to establish a substantial action plan with tight deadlines that will dissipate this unhealthy climate. “The management of the CHSLD de LaSalle must be redesigned from A to Z,” we added.
