TOMS RIVER — A former New Jersey State Police civilian employee accused of sexually assaulting a young girl has been ordered to be held without bail after prosecutors filed additional charges against him relating to another child.

Superior Court Judge Wendel E. Daniels on Monday ordered Milton Cortina, 40, of Little Egg Harbor, to remain in jail without bail while his case is pending, said Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph Coronato.

Cortina was initially arrested Jan. 30 on charges he sexually assaulted a pre-teen girl, Coronato said. He was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual contact, endangering the welfare of a child, production of child pornography, possession of child pornography and invasion of privacy.

As the investigation continued, authorities learned of another alleged victim, who is also a young girl, Coronato said.

In that case, investigators charged Cortina on Feb. 1 with possession of child pornography and invasion of privacy, the prosecutor said.

Cortina was employed as a mechanic for the State Police’s marine services unit, according to public records. He was hired in 2014. He has been jailed since his arrest.
