Seminole County Sheriff’s Office investigators are trying to figure out who stole nearly 20 boat propellers from boatyards in Oviedo.

The first incident happened on Jan. 14 at Boat Max USA, 2953 Alafaya Trail, where 13 parts were stolen, deputies say. Two men can be seen on video taking off the lower assembly of the motor, which includes the propeller and tilt.

Deputies say the second theft happened sometime between Jan. 27 and Feb. 8 at Oviedo Boat and RV Storage, 2385 W. State Road 426.

There were six lower assembly units stolen, according to deputies.

Investigators say the thieves cut through fences to get inside both boatyards.

To prevent future thefts, deputies say boat owners should disconnect the batteries to disable the trim/tilt function so the engines are down and touching the ground.
