QUEENSBURY — A woman is accused of smashing her car into her husband’s property, causing thousands of dollars in damage before being arrested on a drunk driving charge.

Kelli A. Swinton, 34, of Gansevoort is charged with second-degree criminal mischief and third-degree insurance fraud, both felonies, Warren County sheriff’s deputies said. Swinton was arrested Wednesday on charges stemming from a Dec. 1 incident.

At 2 a.m. that day, Swinton drove her 2016 Toyota Highlander to her husband’s property on Bay Road in Queensbury and intentionally struck several items with her SUV, causing more than $11,000 in damage, deputies said.

She fled and was stopped about 20 minutes later by State Police and arrested on a DWI charge. At the time of her arrest, police didn’t know about the incident at her husband’s home because it was not reported until later that morning, deputies said.

Swinton also filed a false claim with her insurance company reporting the damage was a result of a car accident, the sheriff’s office said. As a result, the insurance company paid more than $8,000 to repair Swinton’s car, deputies said.

Swinton was arraigned and released on her own recognizance pending a March court hearing.

The case was investigated by Investigator Edward Affinito and Investigator Jason Palmer of the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
