Quebecers returned Monday from their holidays in the sun are considering giving up on Sunwing for good, after their holiday trip was clouded by the problems of this air carrier.

“We are over,” said Sabrina Trimboli straight out of her plane from Cuba, where her family stayed with a group of 35 people.

Like many travelers who returned to the country Monday afternoon at Montreal-Trudeau airport, his departure with Sunwing on December 26 did not go as planned.

Remember that the winter storm was a thing of the past at that time.

“We were delayed by 15 hours, in all and everywhere,” summarized Ms. Trimboli.

Without saying that his trip was ruined, losing a day of vacation, “it’s still a lot,” agreed the mother.

“This is the second time that I have been had,” lamented for her part Barbara, accompanied by her spouse Éric.

Uncertainty

And as if the problems with the carrier were not enough, Sherbrooke residents doubted that their plane would leave the Montreal-Trudeau runway until the very last minute. They waited in the shuttle leading to their plane for almost an hour.

“Everyone was starting to suffocate, so the tone started to rise, the driver was banging on the window, there was a shouting match with the staff,” recalled Jean-Philippe Simoneau, father of two children aged 5 and 7. years, on his return Monday from Holguin.

Through the anxiety that awaited customers, the lack of communication on the part of Sunwing did not help the cause at all for many.

“The Sunwing site, I was doing an update, and it didn’t change. It’s as if the flight was not late. The website was really unreliable,” pointed out Sylvain Chapados, who also lost a sunny day due to a major delay when leaving Montreal.

Just four hours late…

Despite the ordeal suffered by several Quebecers in the last few days, some told the Journal that they had been relatively spared.

“I was just four hours late [leaving Montreal]. I am one of the lucky ones,” Tonino Naccarato dropped with relief.

Martin, a travel agent from the North Shore of Montreal who keeps his name quiet for fear of reprisals, believes that the numerous testimonials from dissatisfied customers reported in the media in recent weeks will certainly affect Sunwing’s reputation.

“What’s good about it is that we may see flight fare reductions, they’re going to want to rebuild the confidence of travelers,” he said.

Sunwing did not respond to our questions on Monday evening.
