A homeless man found himself in an unfortunate position on Monday after being caught on an island in Drummondville for three days.
It was around 9:30 a.m. that the fire department received a call to rescue the man who was stuck on an island near West Golf Road. The latter would have cried for help because he was starting to be hungry. Thus, firefighters went to look for him on board an inflatable boat.
“He had been alone on the island for three days. He had gone there to find refuge for the night. He managed to get there because there were patches of ice, but they melted,” explained Pascal Roux, division chief of operations for the Drummondville Fire Department.
Fortunately, the man had no injuries and was not suffering from hypothermia. “He was just cold and hungry,” Roux said.
Once brought back to the other side of the shore, the man was taken care of by the Sûreté du Québec who redirected him to the right organizations.
