But what about tech talent?

Software developers might not realize all the city has to offer, according to young tech startup owner Perry Petrozelli. And the young tech-savvy newbies who have found the city may not have found each other.

That’s why Petrozelli is organizing the first-ever tech meetup later this month.

“People love Easton but they can’t get tech talent out here,” he said. “A lot of times they’re outsourcing it. The idea is to build up a small community of tech-savvy software developers.”

The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the Easton Public Market. When it was posted on meetup.com, 30 people signed up in the first 24 hours, Petrozelli said.

“Bethlehem and Allentown have them,” he said. “I think there’s really a need in Easton.”

Petrozelli is developing a workplace app called Happster designed for employers to track the job satisfaction of young workers and find out what it takes to entice them to stay.

The public market seems a natural fit to host such an event, according to Jared Mast, the executive director for the Greater Easton Development Partnership. That’s the nonprofit parent that runs the market that sells organic, healthy prepared dishes and groceries.

“GEDP is excited to support and highlight the budding Easton tech and entrepreneurship community with this meetup at the Easton Public Market,” Mast said. “We hope to build around this first event.”

Petrozelli has two speakers lined up: Ian Berry-Jewett, the vice president of technology for Rehearsal, a video-based practice platform; and Todd Welch, a co-founder of TeamZero, a workplace safety app.

He’s in the process of scheduling two more speakers.
