Three people were killed Sunday, including two children, in the sinking of a tourist boat in a lake in central Ecuador, local authorities announced.

Among the victims are a five-month-old baby, a three-year-old child and a 53-year-old woman, civil protection services said in a statement.

About forty people were nevertheless able to be saved, according to this source. The causes of this accident are not known.

Lake Colta, located about 208 km from Quito, had already been the scene of the sinking in 2013 of another tourist boat, which had killed five people, an adult and four children, the boat being too loaded.
