Quebec and Ottawa have announced $40 million in financial assistance to Certain Teed for its carbon neutrality and energy efficiency project at the Sainte-Catherine plant in Montérégie.

The total cost of the project is $91 million, including $40 million from the ÉcoPerformance program to promote the implementation of major industrial projects aimed at carbon neutrality.

Of this amount, $26.1 million is allocated by the provincial Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, while Environment and Climate Change Canada completes the investment with $13.9 million.

The electrification of the plant’s production line will improve energy performance by avoiding the consumption of approximately 24,000,000 m3 of natural gas, which is equivalent to an annual reduction of 44,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent.

“Through the carbon neutrality objective targeted for this plant, the importance of the CO2 emissions that will thus be avoided and the impressive amount of financial assistance granted, this announcement is another tangible demonstration of our government’s commitment to actively support the Quebec’s energy transition,” said Minister Jonatan Julien.

“Organizations across Canada, like CertainTeed, are responding to the climate crisis by finding ways to manage the risks to our health, economy, safety and biodiversity.

“Our government continues to support climate action actors across the country – and we will continue to do so through a new commitment of $2.2 billion, an important part of Canada’s Emissions Reduction Plan. for 2030,” added Federal Minister Steven Guilbeault.
