“True Detective” actor Matthew McConaughey thinks it’s time Hollywood embraces Donald Trump. After all, he is the President of the United States for the next four years.
In an interview with ChannelFi, the 47-year-old actor was asked by the interviewer about Trump. “Every single American actor or arty type who comes over to London dumps on Trump. You all completely hate him. Do you think it’s time that maybe Hollywood and the cultural elite of America gave this guy a break?”
The Oscar winner replied, “Well, they don’t have a choice now. He’s our President. And it’s very dynamic and as divisive of an inauguration and time that we’ve ever had. At the same time, it’s time for us to embrace, shake hands with this fact, and be constructive with him over the next four years.”

McConaughey also had some words of advice to give to those who opposed Trump’s presidency. “So, even those who most strongly may disagree with his principles or things he’s said and done — which is another thing, we’ll see what he does compared to what he had said — no matter how much you even disagreed along the way, it’s time to think about how constructive can you be. Because he’s our president for the next four years. At least.”
Several actors have spoken against Trump including Scarlett Johannson, America Ferrera, Eva Longoria, Amy Schumer, Meryl Streep and Pauley Perrette. His latest executive order banning immigrants from seven Muslim countries has been met with criticism from Hollywood.
McConaughey is currently promoting his new movie, “Gold,” in which he plays the role of a prosecutor who finds gold in Indonesia. It isn’t long before Wall Street comes after him.
“Gold” released in theatres on Jan. 27.
