Students with the Haven Studio in Bronzeville perform a song they composed for Steve Harvey on an episode of Harvey’s daytime show set to air Thursday.
A year after receiving $5,000 for his music mentorship organization on Harvey’s show, trombonist Chad Bernstein returns to discuss the growth of Guitars over Guns, which operates at Haven Studio in the basement of Mount Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church.
"We bought all new recording equipment and acoustic treatment for the walls," Bernstein says in a sneak peek of the episode. "It’s just unbelievable to have watched that transformation take place."
Chicago rapper Andre "Add-2" Daniels mentors the students, who compose music and learn production and engineering.
The kids perform an original song, "Changes," on the episode, set to air at 2 p.m. on WMAQ-Ch. 5. Harvey tapes his show at the WMAQ studios.
